Lipovenoes preserves energy supply like other fat emulsions and contains a high proportion of essential fatty acids.
Therapeutic indication:
It is source of calories and essential fatty acids in patients with total parenteral nutrition.
Dosage and administration:
Children: 1 to 2 g fat/kg bw/d=10-20ml Lipovenoes 10%
With increased energy requirements up to 3 g fat/kg bw/d=30ml Lipovenoes 10%
Adults: 1 to 2 g fat/kg b.w./d=10-20ml Lipovenoes 10%
Adversereaction:
Possible undesirable effects are: slight rise in temperature, heat sensation-cold sensation, chills, pains in the head, back, bones, chest and loins and increase in the triglyceride level.
Contraindication:
Impaired lipid metabolism: hyperlipidemia, lipoid nephrosis, acute pancreatitis
Allergy to chicken protein
All acute or life threatening such as collapse and shock, recent heart attack, stroke
Pharmacokinetic interactions:
It is contradicted with general anesthesia medicines like Propofol and anticoagulant medicines like Warfarin.
Special warnings:
Caution should be administered in patients with impaired lung function, kidney problems, mellitus diabetes and metabolic disorder. The serum triglyceride level should be checked daily and the levels of blood glucose, acid base metabolism, serum electrolytes and fluid balance should be reviewed at appropriate intervals.
Pregnancy and lactation:
Pregnancy category is C. it is prohibited in neonates with inflammatory bowel disease and infants who are allergic to cow milk.
